To make your move easier to organise we have produced a checklist of essential tasks to do before the move date. Moving house requires a lot of organisation, so if possible get started a good three months before you hope to move and stay ahead of the game!
Prepare a survival kit with the following essential items:

• Food and drink.
Eating and cooking utensils.
Toys for the children.
Toilet paper.
Essential tools (screwdriver, sharp knife, scissors, hammer, nails, tape, torch).
Medicine and first aid equipment.
Bin liners.
Spare light bulbs.
Rubber gloves.
Bed linen and clothes.
Towels.
Soap and washing up liquid.
Cash, cheque book and credit cards.
Important documents (passport, driving licence, move related documents etc.).
List of important telephone numbers.

 
Also:

Pack your valuables (e.g. jewellery) separately to take with you and ensure any boxes with fragile items are clearly marked for the removal company.
Defrost the refrigerator and freezer and pack the food in suitable cooler boxes.
If you need to stay somewhere overnight before moving into your new home, make sure this is finalised.
Read all utility meters.
Make sure the place is clean and tidy for the new occupiers.
Plan your travel route to your new home, especially if you have a long way to go or need to take public transport.
Check with your solicitor when and where you will collect the keys to your new home.

Once you have finished packing, you can sit back and enjoy your final night in your home.
